The winner for best graphics for 2000 is Sacrifice. As I was driving home from work the other day, I was trying to decide how to properly describe the brilliant graphics of this game. As I drove towards the setting sun, I thought to myself, "That sunset looks almost as cool as the sky in Sacrifice. One of natures greatest marvels vs a computer game, and the sky in the game is more colorful and vibrant. And although the sky is probably the first thing you notice about Sacrifice, it will not be the only thing that makes your jaw drop. The terrain stretches to the horizon, and enemy units can be spotted at incredible distances. The ground graphics include a significant number of small plants, rocks, bugs and other details in the foreground that really make the landscape seem alive. But it's the creatures that will really capture your attention. The variety, and sheer demented creativity that went into the creation will bring a smile to your face every time you summon a new type of beastie. The animations and locomotion of the different monsters is really spot on, from the nimble rangers to the lumbering ents, to the flying pyrodactles. And did I mention the spell effects? When is the last time you got a birds eye view of the terrain because you are caught up in an enemies tornado spell? Or raised a volcano, and watched the ground rise up, shooting lava into the clouds? Graphics may not make a mediocre game great, but Sacrifice is a great game, with amazing graphics. If you have a hot 3d card, and want a great game to show it off, do yourself a favor, and pick up this game.
