Starcraft

sm_battle.jpg (6077 bytes)It would be hard to dispute Starcraft as the most popular RTS game online at the moment, with the super-easy to use Battle.Net network in addition to Kali for the veteran players. Much has been made of the numerous online ladders and tournaments featuring this game, and although it continues to be plagued by scandal (hacks, cheats, and disconnects) it remains the most popular and indeed the most enjoyable online RTS experience available.

Runner-up:

Rainbow Six: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six has opened a new genre in the strategic online gaming experience. From a realistic simulation of modern small arms effects (no rocket-jumping here!) to great maps, R6's strategic team-planning elements add a new dimension to the formerly "reflex-focussed" first person shooter market.
