Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate

Finally, a Warhammer game that FEELS like a Warhammer game. With a great amount of units and weaponry to choose from (including the popular Psyker unit who wields mystical powers), with varying terrain levels, and a decent AI, we are rewarded for our patience. This is not only a great Warhammer game, but it happens to be a great squad/turn-based strategy game. So even those NOT familiar with the Warhammer world will have a blast. The choice of Space Marines vs. Chaos was a great choice (as opposed to Marines vs. the now passe Orks as was seen in the Epic title). The addition of an editor was great and the campaign itself addictive. All we can hope for now is an expansion to include the other races of the Warhammer world.

Runner Up

knightsm.jpg (8432 bytes)Warlords 3: Darklords Rising: Okay, not scoring high in the originality department, this title nonetheless is the crowning achievement in the Warlords series. The fact that a fourth installment is under way proves the addictiveness and quality of this series. With four campaigns, an editor and tons of goodies in the way of magical items and spells, this title is one of the best turn-based fantasy games out on the market.
