Most Disappointing Game of the Year:
Braveheart

There are a few things that are comparable to a root canal…one of them is Eidos’ Braveheart.  This was a game that had everything going for it.  A great subject to build upon, a mix of turn-based strategy and real-time 3D battles, and a fantastic license…the movie Braveheart.  Ok, perhaps it had everything going against it.  After all, gamers are well aware of the usual results of games based on even the best of movies…crap, pure and simple.  It was a hellish ride reviewing the game, not so much because of the absence of any tactics in the battle portion, the blandness of the strategy portion, or the confusing mesh of game mechanics that never really came together, but because every minute of playing was spent thinking about how good the game could have been.  Oh well, you can’t win them all…perhaps one day that will change (but not if Eidos Interactive keeps publishing this kind of stuff).
