Fact Sheet
SFC II will dramatically
expand on and improve the game play of Starfleet Command:
The
Mirak Star League is the ages-old enemy of the Lyran Star Empire.
The Mirak favor the missile as their heavy weapon and are able to
put veritable clouds of missiles into space at once. The Mirak also
have increased the tempo of fighter combat with their missile bearing
fighters.
The
Interstellar Concordium is a pacifist empire on the Romulan and Gorn
borders. Observing the ongoing warfare of the General War the ISC
have quietly built up an impressive fleet of capital ships that feature
the Plasmatic Pulsar Device. The ISC are also masters of the echelon
formation and fleet maneuvers.
All of the original six
empires are back and expanded: The Federation of Planets, the Klingon
Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Hydran Kingdom, the Gorn Confederation
and the Lyran Star Empire.
SFC II will feature new
campaign missions for all of the original six races as well as new
campaigns devoted to the Mirak and the ISC.
SFC II will feature over
80 new missions, over 250 new ships, and over 20 new ship models.
SFC II has dramatically
improved the 3D graphics engine with three major new technical achievements:
Dynamic colored lighting from weapon effects and point source lighting
from stars create very dramatic combat scenes. Ships taking damage
will now show progressive damage textures in addition to plasma venting,
electrical arcs and of course brilliant explosions. All the ships,
star bases and even planets now have self-illumination image maps
to show of engine glows, light from windows and molten lava on the
night side of a planet.
Fleet Control has been
dramatically improved with a much richer command set. New, slim panels
will slide up for each of your ships under your control. This panel
will enable you to direct your ships to attack, capture, tractor and
defend without leaving the tactical command of your own ship. Also,
we have added a new formation control panel for line abreast, line
astern, chevron, echelon, and many variations. In addition you may
command your ships to stay in tight or loose formation. Also, you
have the option to turn off independent targeting and weapon firing
for each ship independently and take fine control for your self. And
more.
We are completely overhauling
our campaign engine named Dynaverse and are now calling it Metaverse
to reflect these new changes. The Metaverse will break up the political
map into hundreds of smaller sectors of space that will be displayed
as hexes with terrain such as planets or bases in them. The results
of combat missions will be recorded for each sector and will changes
hands towards the victor. Given enough prestige the player will also
be given the option to build and place new star bases on the map to
protect their empire's borders or to project force as part of their
strategic plan.
Even more exciting, the
Metaverse will be able to be played either as a single player or as
part of shared concurrent matchmaking experience on WON.net. All of
the SFC II players will choose their allegiance in any of the star
empires and play for free in the same world where every player's missions
affect the map. Who will conquer the galaxy? Or pacify? Or unite?
Many more details about this major addition to SFC will be forthcoming
this summer.
