Introduction:
Starcraft and its expansion, Brood War have, like their predecessor Warcraft 2, permanently cemented their place in RTS history. They remain, more than a year after StarCraft's original release, the most popular RTS game in the world. This is due almost entirely to its incredibly well thought-out and balanced strategic content.
This guide is designed to help you grasp some of this strategic content. With some theory on what makes a good Starcraft player, as well as some details for specific strats, hopefully it can assist in making you a better player. This guide will not include build orders, as they are in my opinion superfluous, and part of what makes a good player good is his ability to adapt to meet his opponent's actions. Strict build orders are ultimately a hindrance.
The guide will be separated into 3 sections, one section for each race. While some concepts apply to all three races, and these are generally the most important aspects of the game, it is the relationship between the three races and specific tactics for each army that will be dealt with here. For information and theory on the game applicable to all races I recommend the strategy guide at
http://starcraft.gamegurus.net.
Another strategy guide I would recommend is the Starcraft
University.
