[an error occurred while processing this directive] MAPS AND SCENARIOS The Operational Art of War, Vol. 1
This scenario simulates events on the Southern wing of "Operation Typhoon", Germanys ill-fated attempt to capture Moscow before the onset of winter and a counter-offensive by Siberian troops. The situation depicted is a highly fluid and charged battle. Both sides may have an opportunity to conduct offensives and (sometimes desperate) defenses.
This scenario simulates Operation Barbarossa -- Germany's attempt to conquer the Soviet Union in a one-season 1941 campaign. The game begins on June 22, 1941, and ends in January 1942. The units in this scenario simulate some large forces: Germany fielded about 3.6 million German and allied troops in this campaign, against (initially) some 3 million Soviet troops in European Russia."
This scenario simulates events in Russia
during the spring, summer and fall of 1942 -- Germany's last real chance to defeat Soviet
Russia, and thus win the war. The units in this scenario simulate some large forces:
Germany fielded over 3 million German and allied troops in this campaign, against some 4
million Soviet troops in European Russia.
This scenario simulates events on the Russian front during the critical summer and fall of 1943. Germany conducted its last "operational" offensive the week the scenario begins (Operation Citadel). Strategically, Germany was attempting to impose a stalemate on the Russian Front. The Soviets were about to launch their own offensive, aimed at throwing the Germans out of the Ukraine, and at eroding (or, if possible, smashing) the German position across almost the entire length of the front. |
